Some of Silas's favorite things to do....

Well, it has almost been a year since we had Silas, and I can hardly believe it. As I reflect upon this past year, I am just amazed how quickly babies change. Silas is starting to grow into a more independent baby, soon to be toddler. Wow! Where did the time go? Anyways, I want to attach a few pictures to show you what he is up to now.
  • He really likes to play with doors, so one picture is of him opening and closing the baby gate (or doggy gate).
  • He also likes to stand by the window and just look outside.
  • There is a picture of him just playing with his toys, and
  • then one of him eating. Kurt made some very yummy blueberry (mostly blueberry) pancakes that Silas loved! Unfortunately, he was very hard to clean up after that, but he really enjoyed eating them and his bananas.
Maybe sometime this week or soon I will post a picture of him when we brought him home from the hospital compared to now. It's so neat to look back and reflect.

Update on cousins.

Yeah, things are looking really good for all of Silas's cousins. Brock had a doctor's appt yesterday and everything checked out good. Praise God! We talked with Carla and the twins are gaining weight and the doctor's are very encouraged. They think possibly another week in the hospital, but that is great for how early they came. So, we can't wait to see pictures of all of these cousins and hopefully meet them soon!

For a Total of ..........10 Cousins!

Silas now has 10 first cousins! Wow, it has been a week. Sheila's sister Carla had twin boys on Monday, Will and Wade. Although they came early, they seem to be doing very well. They will be in the NICU for a while, but are already gaining weight which is encouraging. Sheila's step-sister Janelle had a baby boy on Friday named Brock. He is having some heart problems, so it sounds like he will be transferred to a larger hospital on Monday to watch over him. Please pray for these little ones and their families during this time! Anyways, we are very excited about these new additions and can't wait to see them. Now Silas has 5 girl and 5 boy cousins, so it will be fun to see them all play together, hopefully soon!

More about Silas.......

Well, back to being sick. Silas has come down with another cold. I'm not sure if it is the other cold reappearing or a new bug that found its way into our presence. He's the only one sick (hopefully nobody else comes down with it), so we'll just wait and see. This has made for some rough nights along with being up with him very early in the morning. Last night was the first good night's sleep in awhile, so pray that he's over the hump.

Anyways, I wanted to post some more pictures to show what he's up to. Silas loves books, so it is fun to see him pick them up and finger through them. I caught him in the act and thought I'd show you. He's also big into being upside down. I'm not sure where he got that trait from! So it's cute to see him just plop down and go to his head. As always, you have to have pictures with Haven. Silas has a love hate relationship with Haven. Silas chases Haven around, locks her out of rooms, feeds her when we aren't looking and is constantly pulling her hair and tail. However, if Haven does something to make him mad like take one of his toys or eats a cheerio out of his hand, forget it, we have one mad Silas. So it is kind of funny to watch them play. The other picture is from awhile ago with Kurt and Silas. I just think it is a neat picture. I hope you enjoy!

The Temper Tantrums have begun.......

So, the temper is in full force right now. It feels like Silas is way too young for that, but I guess not. It's funny how people say we are not sinners from birth. Ok, then tell me how an infant already throws a tantrum when they don't get what they want. Did we teach him that? I sure hope not. That indeed is our human sinful nature. Anyways, Silas is into this banging his head on the floor. It's very unusual, because sometimes it is because he's mad, but sometimes he just does it even if he's not upset. It also doesn't matter whether it is a tile floor or carpet, he does it anyway! I looked it up on the internet, because it was scaring me at first seeing him hurt himself. Well, looks as though about 20% of babies do it, and it is a calming effect. Hmmm, not sure how it calms you, it appears to make him more mad if it hurts, but I guess that is a part of learning the environment and cause and effect.

Anyways, I will attach a few pictures to show a temper tantrum he had recently. I couldn't get one of him banging his head, but I'll try to get one. The other picture is him playing Peek a boo, which is a game he now absolutely loves. This has made bath time even longer, because before we can start the bath, he grabs the towel and starts playing. It is really cute though, so I guess I don't mind.

Still learning...

We were very kindly informed that the "comment" ability was missing on the last couple of postings. It seems that I needed another opportunity to grow in humility as my limited technical capabilities is exposed once again - I know I may have many of you fooled into thinking otherwise. It appears that I inadvertently turned off the comment feature when I was adjusting our settings...sorry about that.

Janelle, thanks again for letting us know. I appreciate your help!

A Wonderful Weekend

Kurt and Silas playing with the blocks at the art museum.

Silas is really into windows and mirrors. You really have to watch him, because he loves to lick them!!!!

We had a very nice weekend, so it was hard to wake up today and get motivated. Kurt didn't teach this weekend, so we had a family weekend, that was much needed. On Friday night, we had a date night and had some friends from church watch Silas for us. We went out for supper and then came home and watched a movie. We haven't had time like that together for awhile, so it was nice to catch up. On Saturday, we went to Denver to enjoy the art museum. Every first Saturday of the month, the art museum is free for Colorado residents, so we enjoyed a free family day. The museum was pretty full with families, but very nice. Silas did great, as we spent over 2 hours there. Then, we went out to eat for a late lunch. Sunday after church, we had a friend over for the Superbowl, so we were able to watch the game and enjoy some company and fellowship. So, back to reality today, but we were very thankful for the time we had together.

I will attach a few pictures of Kurt and Silas enjoying the art museum. They had a sort of break room for kids to enjoy, and so we let Silas crawl around and have some fun as a break.
