Random Tidbits

Just thought I'd update since I have a little bit of time. We've had a fun week so far and I can hardly believe it is Friday tomorrow. On Wednesday, one of the benefits of living nearby the Air Force Academy is their graduation ceremony. The Thunderbirds always perform an airshow and it is incredible. I would love to be in the football field sometime to watch it, but for now, we watch it at a mall nearby. It was a great show and Silas loved it. I will post a few pictures, although it doesn't give the full effect by any means. Just caught a few on camera.

Ok, you can barely see them, but I think you get the point.

Here's another formation. They were really beautiful!

Today we had a fun day at the park with a bunch of friends. Before we went though, Nathan was being very silly. He has now learned how to clap and will just sit there and clap. Silas then copies him and so we are all clapping and Nathan thinks it is a riot. Well, before we left for the park, I put a hat on him and it just made him silly as ever. I got a few pictures that I couldn't resist!

I hope to post before we leave, but if not, we are heading on vacation for two weeks. Yes, we are leaving for Iowa and Chicago so Kurt can do some work in the midwest and we can visit family. Both of my sisters and step sister and families will be home, so there will be 9 cousins enjoying themselves in Iowa. I don't think Grandpa Shippy and Amma are fully prepared for this again! Get out the 4 wheeler, tractors and lots of room to run on the farm....should be fun!

Here's where we started with the hat on and him playing.

He's starting to think he doesn't want it on even though he is so dang cute w/ it on!

He's going to figure out how to get this off yet!

Just tipping his hat!

Now he realizes it is a game.....

Ta Da......right after this picture it fell off.......let's just say it didn't last long on his head at the park either!

Memorial Day weekend and MORE.....

The weather this weekend didn't cooperate for everything we would have liked to do, but it did cooperate for our first major league baseball game outing. Monday we got tickets for the Colorado Rockies game vs. the LA Dodgers. It rained all the way to the game and even up until the game. So the game was delayed and I was nervous as to whether it was going to work out or not. However, God was very kind to us (and Silas who prayed for the weather) and it all worked out. It was actually a nice day. No sun so cloudy and overcast, but not too hot or cold. The boys did very good also. We lasted until the 7th inning and then called it a game because the Rockies were losing pretty badly and we were all getting hungry and tired. We went with a bunch of friends from church, so it was nice to have company and other kids to entertain one another. I'll attach a picture.

Kurt took today off also, so it was nice to have an even longer weekend as a family. We decided to get Nathan's haircut. Yes, I was very sad, because we lasted 18 months with Silas, but it wasn't going to happen with Nathan. I think Nathan was born with more hair then Silas had at 18 months when we cut it! We've been trimming Nathan's hair for awhile, because it kept getting in his eyes, so we broke down and decided to get it done so that from here on out Kurt can cut it like he does Silas's. But, similar to Silas, we wanted the first official haircut, so I'll attach pictures of that. Unfortunately I didn't get an after picture, but I'm sure I'll post more pictures soon and you can tell he got his haircut. He looks so old now. He turns 8 months tomorrow, but everyone thinks he's so much older because he's HUGE! I think we're topping the scales now at 20 lbs. So, I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and onto summer!

Yes, still smiling even though he has no idea what is going on. Such a sweetie.

Now more serious as he's realizing something is happening!

Almost done!

Garage Sale Season

Yeah, it is garage sale season! Although the weekends out here haven't been conducive to good garage sale weather, we have hit it big already. Our biggest find was a train table. Silas LOVES trains and we had a small track that we would play with on the floor. It worked fine and he thought it was great, but kind of a pain to constantly clean it up and always have to sit on the floor to play with it. I looked on craigslist and about had a heart attack when I saw how expensive people were still trying to sell them for used. So, I just put it to rest.

Well, we found one at a garage sale and it is amazing. It is in perfect shape and includes bins underneath with a ton of extra track to use! The family was moving to New Mexico and didn't want to take it with (although their boys weren't thrilled!) and so we benefited. It was $25.00 for the whole set (we actually ended up getting it for $23.00....long story). So it was quite the deal. Let's just say I have never played so much train in my entire life!

Some of our other deals were great clothes for .50 each, a hedge hog that makes Kurt's life much easier when trimming our bushes, tables for church, a garbage truck still in its box since Silas is enthralled with garbage trucks right now, and a book. Lots of fun and amazing stuff! Here are some pictures of Kurt and Silas playing train.

Daddy's Birthday

Kurt took today off since it is his birthday. I don't think we've spent his birthday together much, because before he was usually at a gymnastics meet or working somewhere else. So, it was nice to be able to spend a workday with him at home with us. Silas and I made him a cake last week and Silas decorated it. We had big plans to do outdoor activities today, but the weather didn't cooperate. It was foggy and overcast most of the morning. However, now during naptime, of course, it is absolutely beautiful out! Maybe we'll still try to do something outside yet.

So we took the kids to Focus on the Family to play. They have a great kids area and the best part about it is that it is free. Here are some of the pictures we took.

Silas and the cake.....very beautifully decorated with sprinkles.

Silas and Daddy in the plane at Focus on the Family.
Silas trying to touch one of the stars. You can't tell, but they flash on and off. It is a neat area.

The toddler/baby area. Nathan had a blast and Silas enjoyed himself too, so it was nice to be able to hang out in this room with both of them playing.

A Rainy Saturday

I always hate when it rains on the weekends, because there are so many things we like to do outdoors, so I was bummed last weekend when we woke up to rain and it was rainy all day. After a dreary day with much accomplished inside, we decided to treat ourselves to an indoor eating and playing area nearby our house. Thank God for coupons! Anyways, we had a nice time and thought I'd post some pictures of it.

Pictures and Updates

I wanted to add more Easter pictures. I was hoping they would turn out better, but I guess I need to start being realistic about how hard it is to capture good pictures with two young boys. It's all about creating the memories, not looking like we have it all together! I need to post some blooper pictures sometime, because we have some good ones.

We also went to the zoo this week and took advantage of an absolutely beautiful day. We took Miss Sandy and so it was nice to spend a day with her. We've already bought our zoo membership for the year, so this year will be another year of posting a lot of zoo pictures. With young kids, the zoo never gets old! I am pretty biased in regards to our zoo, because it is absolutely beautiful there. The view is incredible and it's a great workout (most of it uphill since it is on the mountain) and not too overwhelming for a family with young kids. So we'll be going a lot again this year.

This was Easter afternoon, after church and naps, so we were all pretty exhausted but the photo turned out half way decent!
Nathan hamming it up for the camera. He's still a pretty easy picture taker!

The boys together. I think this is photo number 50 and they are finally looking the same way. Poor Nathan looks shocked though!
Silas couldn't understand why Nathan kept trying to eat the plastic eggs, so he decided to try it for himself. He didn't think it was that great.

Miss Sandy helping Silas feed the giraffes.

Miss Sandy and Silas chasing a peacock. You can kind of see its tail on the left part of the picture.

I just caught this picture the other night before bed and thought it was cute. Nothing really special about it.

This has become a pretty typical night. Silas rolling with Nathan (since Nathan is quite the roller) and sometimes rolling over Nathan. Haven in the action in case some spit up occurs! So, never a dull moment.
